Some say that it might not be a good idea to use older flashes meant for film SLR’s on DSLR’s. The trigger voltages that were safe for the simpler cameras may be excessive for the DSLR’s electronics.
Yes, you can use a film flash on a digital camera. However, the new flashes have upgraded electronics that allows them to act "smarter." I would recommend upgrading to a Canon 430EX II.
